Daiwa Phantom Hyper Reel
If the Daiwa Phantom Hyper reel performs half as good as it looks, then it’s going to be one heck of a performer. The point is, its performance is even better than it looks.
The mid-price point Daiwa Phantom Hyper Reel is for sale now at the fishing tackle shop. If you’re an angler who hunts a larger class of fish inshore, this is your fishing reel.
The Hyper construction contains Daiwa’s LT concept. The Light Tough concept construction rips the weight out of the reel while maintaining serious strength and rigidity.
The Hyper is jam-packed full of Daiwa’s flagship technologies including Tough Digigear, ATD, Air Rotor and the Long Cast ABS aluminium spool. To keep things silky-smooth, Daiwa has constructed the Hyper with five corrosion resistant ball bearings.
While delivering a buttery, yet rock-solid crank, the CRBB (bearings), also keep out the salt sand and other reel destroying contaminants.
These bearings will last up to 25 times longer than standard bearings. In short, your reel will last countless sessions under the toughest of saltwater conditions.
The Daiwa Phantom Hyper Reel is born of serious pedigree and beautifully refined. However, underneath the classy looks, and weightlessness, is a spinning reel with all the mongrel you need to tackle many of Australia’s most aggressive predatory fish. Don’t leave this page without putting one in your shopping trolley. You deserve one.

Daiwa Phantom Hyper Reel Size and Buyers Guide
Unless your focus is narrow on a particular species, it’s going to be tough to choose a size. That’s because each Daiwa Hyper fishing reel in the series is so incredibly versatile.
For example, the 3000 has a whopping 10 kilos of ATD (drag). 10Kg is more than enough to tackle the likes of barra, cod and the dirty fighting mangrove jack.
The 4000 and 5000 will be ideal for light-med beach, whatever you’re chasing. 4000 or 5000 are by no means overkill for whiting, flathead, bream and dart, yet have all the power you need for big Aussie Salmon and big greenback tailor.
Casting distances are out of this world. Again, perfect for the beach. For those chasing massive pigs from the ocean rocks, or 45 cm bream with crabs or cunjevoi, the 5000 will be perfect. Switch over to a metal slice and cast at bonito, tailor or smaller mackerel.
3000 through to 5000 will be perfect all around the estuary whether you fish flesh baits, live baits or lures. For our money, the 4000 or 5000 looks like a bara special. With the 12kg max of ATD, the balance of power is in your hands.
The 6000 will give you access to a larger class of fish from the rocks and beach. 6000 is also the best option for throwing huge soft plastics at the mulloway that inhabit the deeper harbours — casting massive swimbaits at cod? Try 6000.
The 6000 also gets you offshore bouncing the bottom for snapper or tossing floating baits, or poppers for pelagic species.
Benefits
- ATD provides silky-smooth drag right from the start. Because of reduced initial start-up inertia, there is far less chance of a bust-up because of the fish’s initial burst of power.
- The LT concept body is incredibly strong and rigid yet super light. Reduced Angler fatigue and all the torque brings to the fight. The gears are protected, remaining in perfect mesh under the heaviest of loads.
- The long cast spool contributes to the lightweight feel while providing better casting distances. Perfect for fishing the beach and rocks.
- Infinite anti-reverse gives strikes that turn into hook-ups. The absence of back play in the handle ensures lines don’t go slack. The fish has little chance the moment you lift the rod tip.
- Tough Digigear works hand in hand with the five sealed bearings for a silky smooth crank. The machine cut gears deliver outstanding strength under the toughest of loads. You feel a confident, solid crank throughout the entire battle.
The Daiwa Phantom Hyper fishing reel does not reflect its price tag; It’s better, a lot better. The Phantom Hyper is a head-turner, for both people and fish. The Daiwa Phantom Hyper Reel is for sale at the fishing tackle shop, and it’s a must-have for all spin anglers chasing a larger class of fish inshore.
