Our Story, From the Beginning

"Our story didn't start with a grand business plan, but with a simple opportunity that fell into my lap. I was working in an aquarium shop, and the local tackle store across the road was closing down. Suddenly, we had a stream of people coming in asking where on earth they could buy bait.

With my boss's permission, I put in a small bait fridge and a selection of tackle. That small section grew, and in 2001, I took out my first lease and started 'Fishing Aqua Pet'. We focused solely on fishing tackle from around 2006, but after COVID struck in 2020, I decided to diversify and got back into the aquarium game as a separate side business, Ocean Storm Aquariums.

In 2005, I built our first online store, fishingtackleshop.com.au, by myself from scratch. The first couple of years were a slow grind, but we've now grown to process tens of thousands of orders a year for anglers right across Australia and the world. Even though we've grown, we're still that local tackle shop at heart."
