With several sizes from which to choose, the Shimano Tiagra is a masterful piece of engineering. With 2 speeds, one for cranking heavy and one for faster pace, the Tiagra dominates the Blue water. The 130A heads the pack and is designed for the biggest fish the ocean can offer. Some of you may not be sure what type of rod you need to purchase so below is a few basic suggestions.
Rivers & Lakes – Targeting bream, whiting, Australian bass, trout, flathead and other light class fish. Our suggestion is to look for a 6-7ft rod with a line rating of between 2-5kg approx. If targeting a larger class of fish then you can go with a rod rating of between 5-10kgs such as targeting barramundi or murray cod as a couple of examples. We also have quite a few rods rated in between to target yellowbelly, mangrove jack and other mid class fish species.
Rock Fishing – our biggest selling size for rock angling within Australia is in the 9-10ft size most rods in this calibre are rated 5kgs+
Beach Fishing – our recommendation is to go for a longer class of rods to use on beaches where there is a fair bit of swell and wash. Our biggest selling beach rod size is between 10-13ft. If your beaches are more sheltered and often calm you can always get away with a much shorter and lighter rod, especially if its only light class fish such as bream and whiting that you are targeting.
Offshore Boat Fishing – It really does depend on what you are targeting. Generally, the rods most anglers purchase for boat fishing usually don’t exceed 7ft. We have a wide range of boat rods for reef fishing through to game rods. Boat rods will generally have a heavier line rating from 5kg through to around 37kg. If you need help picking the best boat rod for your needs feel welcome to get in touch with us for further advice.

Like many global companies Shimano began its life in a very humble manner. In 1921 Shozaburo Shimano rented a small space and borrowed a lathe. He made a sprocket. It is difficult to conceive that he imagined such a beginning would evolve into an empire with revenues of over 2.5 billion annually with offices and factories spanning the globe.
Shimano began in bicycles. Today, it is indeed one of the biggest players in the sport. In 1970, the fishing tackle division was born. It’s market leadership in areas of cold forging made reel manufacturing an obvious progression. In 1971The DUX series of spinning reels is in the market. 40 odd years later, the Shimano range of fishing tackle is truly phenomenal, a household name. And like its presence and influence in cycling, Shimano leads the way, setting the benchmark in development, innovation and quality in fishing. If there is one name you can trust it is Shimano Fishing.
