Fishing Applications and Fishing Rod Suggestion Guide

The 2500 and 4000 cover the vast majority of inshore work. The smaller option covers finesse fishing for everything from trout, to bass, whiting, bream and more. It’s an ideal model for light soft plastics and smaller hard bodies.

The 4000 is an inshore general-purpose workhorse that you can cast at anything. Ideal land-based or afloat, the 4000 can tackle a much larger class of fishing from the inshore waters. We like it for chasing big flatties with live poddy mullet. Expect interest from flathead over the 60 mark.

Barra anglers looking for serious sport at an affordable price will love the 4000 Tactical, as will mangrove jack hunters. It’s also an excellent option for casting metal slices at late-arvo tailor well over the chopper size. Ideal from the break walls, you’ll also have plenty of sport should bonito or frigate take a liking to your metal slice.

The 6000 is a staple for the beach and rocks. You have all the power you need to tackle the biggest of Aussie Salmon and greenback tailor. With 22 pounds of max drag, you’ll have enough stick to put some hurt into a Mulloway.

It’s an excellent option for medium-sized pelagic species from the rocks, and there’s enough power for the biggest of pigs and groper. Live baits and pig hard body lures are no issue for the 6000.

The 8000 is designed to dominate the surf and rocks, particularly for the larger visitors like kings and big Jew. You’ll love it outside the heads for tackling reef species like trevally and the biggest of snapper. And it’s great for the likes of mackerel, mahi mahi and other sport fish.

Our Rod suggestions as follows

2500 -  6-7ft rod rated 2-5kg or thereabouts for light river, lake and other inshore fishing.

4000 – 6-7ft rod for med-heavy inshore fishing with rating 4-8kg+. Suits light offshore with same rod specs.

6000 – 8ft to 12ft in length for beach and rock fishing (6kg+ rated) , or 6-7ft (10kg+) for offshore boat fishing.

8000 –10ft to 12ft in length for beach and rock fishing (8kg+ rated) , or 6-7ft (10kg+) for offshore boat fishing.

Benefits

  • Four bearings deliver long working life and a better crank.
  • Excellent drag capacities across the range deliver a workhouse capability. They’re built for heavy scraps with belligerent fish right across the range.
  • Robust constructions ensure a longer working life, yet materials are lightweight providing anglers with a fatigue-free lightweight feel.
  • The stainless main shaft and brass pinion gear deliver long-lasting strength.
  • Robust construction makes the Jarvis Walker Tactical reels an ideal choice for those intense on their gear. However, robust strength doesn’t come at the expense of feel and sensitivity.

The Jarvis Walker Tactical Reels are for sale now at the fishing tackle shop. They’re an ideal fishing reel for any angler looking for durability, and excellent performance across the key performance criteria. Thing is…you’ll pay a lot less for Tactical than you will for other brands with less capability.
