Instead of having a fixed point in the sinker like the regular ones, the ball sinker comes with a hole through the whole sinker. This hole can be used to run your main line through it, thus allowing for more flexibility.
Commonly the ball sinker is placed running straight to the hook, or preserved for running through the main line above any given swivel connection.
