Abu Garcia Max X Spin Reels

Your budget might be ultra-conservative, but at the same time, you certainly don’t want a toy, and you want quite the opposite and a sporting chance for a small outlay.

The Abu Garcia Max X Spin Reels does all that and more, providing an incredibly robust fishing reel that will perform with integrity.

Abu Max X Spinning reels (Formally Black Max) sport features from its older and more expensive sibling, the Revo. Features such as the Everlast bail system.

The Everlast bail system is designed to withstand the wear and tear of fishing. Other systems, such as auto bail arms, can fail anytime and leave you with a useless reel, and the Everlast bail is guaranteed to engage every single time you crank.

The Rocket line management system and the Rocket Spool Lip Design are the big technologies that make casting legendary and near always accurate and long. The big plus is that looping is eliminated, and there is less likely to be downtime sorting tangles, regardless of the number of times you cast. A brilliant feature for the lure angler.

The Slow Oscillation and Rocket line management system teams up with the Rocket Spool Lip Design to offer casting credentials well above the entry-level category. These are the sorts of features you want when casting long and heavy from the rivers banks, ocean rocks or a windy beach.

Three ball bearings, while a small amount by modern standards, is more than enough to give a silky feel and support under load.

The absence of moving parts makes this simple design perfect for the angler looking for no-fuss durability — an ideal choice for the part-timer, novice and rough angler.

Abu Garcia Max X Spin Reels look fantastic in Black and red. Please pick your size, buy one now, and strap it to your favourite rod.

Abu Garcia Max X Spin Reel Buying Guide

Small Size Class Models

Ideal size for light class fishing, such as lakes, rivers, harbours, etcetera.

The 20 and 30 sizes will see you well placed to cover most inshore applications, land-based, inland boat or Kayak, fresh and Salt.

You will target anything from Trout, Bass and Yellow Belly to Bream, Flathead and Whiting. The spool is ideally placed to handle braid or traditional mono so you can easily fish with lures of all types and flesh baits, live and fresh.

Abu Max X spin 20 reel is that little finesse reel that you will come to love for estuary, lake, stream and harbour fishing for a wide array of light class fish species such as the likes of bream, trout, perch, bass, whiting, flathead and a whole lot more.

Some suggestions we can provide is to fish this reel with a 6-7ft rod with a line rating anywhere in the vicinity of around 2-5kg. We have plenty for sale here at Fishing Tackle Shop.

Abu Garcia Max X 30 reel is just that touch bigger – not by much but sees an increase in either line capacity or line weight size that can be used. Therefore, stick along the same lines by choosing a rod around 6-7ft in length but with a line rating anywhere from 2-6kg.

Choose a graphite rod if you want sensitivity and feel and like to use many lures or for the novice and bait angler, fibreglass style rods like Uglystik rods make good choices.

These are our suggestions; of course, this is purely a guide, so feel welcome to go your own way. If you require rod choice assistance, get in touch with us.

Medium Size Class Models

Your ideal choice for heavy inshore, beach, rock or boat fishing

Here’s a reel that doesn’t require a tremendous amount of thought. If you’re on a tight budget but want a medium size reel for your boat, or to hit the rocks and surf, just put an Abu Garcia Max X Spin reel in your shopping basket right now. Strength and durability with solid, reliable performance at an entry-level price. Brilliant.

The Max X 60 or 40 size looks great in black, with sport-style red highlights. However, aesthetics are only a tiny part of a much bigger picture.

Point the Abu Max X 60 at larger mulloway from the surf gutters and break walls or target big Tailor or salmon from the rocks.

On the boat, the 60 will see you well-armed for smaller pelagic species and reef feeders like big snapper out on the nearshore waters.

If you want to head up the top-end rivers, the 40 will give decent Barra plenty of stick but will also work brilliantly as an inshore all-rounder, capable of record flathead or Big Murray cod from the fresh.

The Max X medium size range are great budget spin reels that get you out tackling big fish for mere pocket change.

Abu Garcia Max X 40 Reel is the ideal pick for your all-round heavier inshore applications such as chasing mulloway in lakes, barramundi in rivers and impoundments, cod in the dams, snapper out of the shallow reefs, etcetera.

We suggest purchasing a 6-8ft rod with the Max 40 size reel. Graphite rods will be the best choice, and those with a rating of between 4-10kg will be ideal.

You could also use the 40-size model on a 3-5kg long, light surf rod to target whiting or blackfish.

Abu Garcia Max X 60 Reel is ideal for those heavier offshore boat applications and for spinning off the rocks and beach with a slightly heavier line class.

Match to a 9-10ft rod for spinning off the rocks, a 10-12ft rod for fishing off the beach or a 6-7ft boat rod for fishing offshore.

  • The lightweight feel of a graphite body and rotor combined with a lightweight Alloy spool sacrifices nothing in overall strength while providing fatigue-free casting.
  • The Max X Spin reel can take some punishment, and the simple yet robust construction ensures the Max X will handle the toughest of species and most demanding of anglers.
  • The casting features are the same as the Revo reels, a far more expensive Abu Garcia Model. This means the angler gets the superb casting manners of a spin reel, attracting a much higher price tag.
  • The Slow Oscillation provides a dead even line lay. This, coupled with the Rocket line management system and the Rocket Spool Lip Design, ensures fantastic casting, a perfect feature when fishing the rocks and beaches.
  • Casting manners are such that casting loops are all but eliminated. This is ideal for constant casting in tricky conditions.
  • Everlast Bail System is an excellent design. One of the issues with spin reels over the years has been the propensity for auto bail systems to be too fragile. Everlast was designed to combat this recurring problem, providing Max X with even more outstanding durability.

Hit the rivers, lake, beach, boat and rocks confidently with your new Abu Garcia Max X Spin Reels. There’s no need to bust the bank to get strength and performance for the environments it needs most. The Max X spin fishing reel is a brilliant entry-level reel, ideal for the novice and intermediate angler on a budget.
