Asian seabass, barra or barramundi is a tie of catadromous fish, belonging to the Latidae family. Barra is mostly found in the western Indo Pacific region, beginning from the Gulf of Persia and extending till northern Australia. The most common characteristics of this fish are the elongated body, oblique mouth and a long upper jaw, which extends beyond the eye. With its large scales that become light or dark with changes in the environment, barra can be as long as 6 ft and weigh as much as 60 kg. The average length of this fish is between 2 ft and 4 ft.
Barra is found in both freshwater and saltwater, belonging to rivers, coasts, lagoons and estuaries. It lives in turbid and clear waters, and can withstand temperatures between 26 to 30 degrees centigrade.
